The Finished Product

I searched far and wide for a finish carpenter to complete the office.  Stone or metal were out as surfaces as neither is really appropriate for an office (kitchen or bath, fine) and both would be too cold on the forearms when typing or otherwise using the desk.  No, only wood would do.  I have neither the skills or the space to create an 8 foot long desktop.  This part of the project had to be outsourced.

Our neighbors below were having their floors replaced and the guy they were working with (who also did their kitchen) agreed to provide a quote.  He came up stairs one night, took some measurements and quoted us a grand.  When asked about a deposit, he said not to worry.

I should have worried.

Weeks go by and phone calls aren't returned.  Finally, after repeated calls his cell, he promises another week.  Weeks then months go by and more of the same.  Our neighbors, who are friends with this guy, assure us the work will get done.  Babs has faith as well.  And we have no one else to do the work.

The spring flood in New Jersey sets us back several more weeks, but finally he commits and follows through.  Price was a bit higher at  $1100, but well worth the extra expense and the wait. The work is excellent and brings the whole thing together.

At Last It's Done

Desktop From The Side

What remains is painting and new base molding.  Tedious and not really web worthy.  Hope you've enjoyed the tale.  I've enjoyed the work, the result and the reporting.
