While Big Sur was probably the most beautiful place any of us had ever seen, two days with questionable Internet meant it was time to move on. Our destination for the day was a short hop down the coast to Pismo Beach. But, first, a stopover in the cute and quaint tourist trap of San Luis Obispo and its number one attraction, Bubblegum Alley.

Even More Disgusting Than It Looks
Of all the towns we passed through, for me, the coolest was probably Pismo Beach (the most beautiful was Santa Barbara). It’s as if in 1968 someone sprayed the entire town with temporal fixative. Imagine New Paltz by the sea. The sunsets are stunning (see below), surf and t-shirt shops abound as do bars and other night spots, and there is no shortage of seafood restaurants ranging from the overpriced to the hole-in-the-wall. I wish we could have spent more than one day there.
